Standing Orders

Standing Orders 

  1.  A member to stand when addressing the Chair.

  1. A member shall only address the meeting when called upon by the Chairman to do so, after which he shall immediately take his seat.

  1. Through the Chairman, members shall provide their questions to the relevant Credit Union employee.

  1. A member shall not speak twice on the same subject except when:

    a) He is the mover of the motion, who has the right to reply, or

    b) He rises to object or explain (with the permission of the Chair).

  1. The mover of the procedural motion (Adjournment lay on the table, Motion Postpone) to have no right to reply.

  1. No speeches to be made after the “Question” has been put and carried or failed.

  1. A member rising on a “Point of Order” to state the point clearly and concisely. (A “Point of Order” must have relevance to the “Standing Orders”).

  1. a) A member shall not “Call” another Member “To Order” but may draw the attention of the Chair to a “Breach of Order”.                                                           b) In no event shall a member call the Chair to order.

  1. A “Question” should not be put to a vote if a member desires to speak on it or move an amendment to it, except that a Procedural Motion, the “Previous Question”, “Proceed to the next Business” or the Closure: “That the Question be Now Put” may be moved at any time.

  1. Only one amendment should be placed before the membership at any one time.

  1. When a motion is withdrawn any amendment to it falls away.

  1. The Chairman to have the right to a “Casting Vote”.

  1. If there is equality of voting on an amendment, and if the Chairman does not exercise his casting vote, the amendment is lost.

  1. Provision to be made for protection by the Chairman from vilification (Personal Abuse).

  1. No member shall impute improper motives against another member.
